I love the story of Ruth, not many young women would give up their life in order to take care of their elderly parents. In today’s society women are taught to go to college, seek a good career, and make money, ( and I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with doing these things but we must seek God’s kingdom first and his will for our lives). Looking after our elderly loved ones has become obsolete. Nursing homes are more popular, and the working career woman is praised for her ambition to succeed along side her competitor, MEN. The feminist movement has destroyed the thinking of many women, and now being a homekeeper is looked upon as dull, boring and lifeless.
Sister Ruth was willing to suffer whatever criticism and persecution that may come her way in order to stay close to her beloved mother in law Naomi...
Ruth said To Naomi,
Rth 1:16 ... Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Rth 1:17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
How beautiful was Sister Ruth, this type of love comes from the heart of God =)
Naomi lost her husband and her two sons, she was a widower and motherless, Naomi was not rich, Naomi was too old to bare children, Naomi even felt that God was punishing her, she said,
Rth 1:20 ... Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
So why did Ruth what to give up her life and cling to someone who had absolutely nothing ?, Godly love is the answer. When God put people together, (whether it be mother /daughter, son /father, father/ daughter, friends etc..) It is a genuine love from above. Ruth was willing to suffer in this life in order to stay close to the mother she loved. How much more should we be willing to suffer for Christ who loves us unconditionally and promised us the free gift of eternal life?
I admire Ruth and Naomi, they remind me of my mother and myself, I am willing to suffer persecution, rejection, and whatever else may come our way to stay close with my mother, she is the one who taught me to trust in God, and it is her faith in God that I admire.
My mother has dedicated me unto God from my birth, just like Hannah dedicated Samuel unto the service of the lord,(1 Samuel 1:27/28). And we have gone through many trails, but we did it together. How awesome is God !!! I want to encourage everyone to read the book of Ruth, ...a true example of Godly love.
